What are the voter eligibility requirements?

In Texas, any American citizen who is 18 years of age or older on the date of the election, is a resident of Texas and the county or district in which they will be voting, and is registered to vote is eligible to vote in Texas elections. In order to register to vote in Texas, an individual must be 18 years of age, a United States citizen, and a resident of the county in which they are registering. If the individual was ever convicted of a felony, he or she must have fully served the sentence, including any time spent on probation or parole. When registering to vote, an individual must provide either their driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number. If one of those is not available, the individual can provide another identifying document such as a passport, military ID card, or birth certificate. Once registered, voters in Texas must vote in the same county and district in which they are registered. If an individual moves to a different county or state, he or she must register in the new location in order to vote there. Voters may choose to suspend their voter registration status for a variety of reasons. In Texas, suspended voter registration does not stop an individual from voting; however, the individual must re-register to vote at their new address in order to be eligible to vote in the next election.
