What is the difference between a voluntary sale and a forced sale?

The main difference between a voluntary sale and a forced sale is the extent of control that each party has over the sale. These conditions include public use of the property, the property having been abandoned, or circumstances when it is necessary to clear a particular area of private ownership. In these cases, the owners of the property will be compensated for their losses, though the amount of compensation may be lower than what the owner might have expected in a voluntary sale.
