What is the difference between an at-will and a contract employee?

At-will employees and contract employees are two types of employment arrangements in Indiana. At-will employees are employees who can be hired or dismissed by the employer for any reason, at any time, with or without notice or cause. This type of employment agreement gives employers a lot of freedom and flexibility to manage their workforce as needed. On the other hand, contract employees are hired and employed under a clearly defined agreement. They generally have more job security than at-will employees, as the employer is obliged to stick to the terms of the contract and cannot fire the employee without cause. Contract employees also usually receive greater job protections and benefits than at-will employees, such as a minimum notice period or compensation for loss of employment. In addition, contract employees typically have a set salary and job duties, while at-will employees may be offered variable pay and job responsibilities that change over time.
