Are employers required to provide employee health benefits?
In North Carolina, employers are not required to provide employee health benefits. However, employers may choose to offer health benefits if they choose to do so. Employers may offer health benefits to their employees through a variety of different plans, including medical, dental, vision, and other types of coverage. The federal government does not require employers to offer group health coverage, although some employers may be required to meet certain standards in order to be eligible for certain tax credits. The Affordable Care Act does not require employers with more than 50 full-time employees to provide health coverage either. Additionally, North Carolina state law does not require private employers to provide health benefits to their employees. In short, employers in North Carolina are not legally required to provide employee health benefits.
