Are employers allowed to ask job applicants about their disabilities?
In Hawaii, employers may not ask job applicants about disabilities during the application process, as this could lead to discrimination. However, employers may ask questions to help identify reasonable accommodations that could be made in order to make a job accessible to applicants with disabilities. Additionally, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires employers to make reasonable accommodations that allow people with disabilities to perform the essential functions of a job.
