What is environmental law?
Environmental law is a branch of law that seeks to protect and regulate the environment. In California, this law is used to promote public health and safety, protect air, water, and biodiversity, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Environmental law strives to regulate industries that produce toxic pollutants, as well as establish regulations for those who monitor and clean up hazardous waste sites. Additionally, environmental law places restrictions on how people use the land, how they handle and manage animals, and what types of activities are acceptable in certain areas. Environmental law also dictates how different types of businesses must handle things like chemicals, solid waste, and air quality, in order to prevent hazardous waste from polluting the environment. Environmental law also seeks to conserve natural resources, such as water and forests, by establishing conservation programs and setting limits on development. Additionally, law makers have used environmental justice to ensure that all citizens have equal access to clean air, safe drinking water, and other environmental benefits, regardless of income levels or race. Finally, environmental law includes the protection of endangered species, the establishment of wildlife refuges, and the policing of illegal dumping and poaching. California’s environmental laws also serve to educate the public, allowing them to make informed decisions that can help protect the environment.
