What is the Superfund Act?

The Superfund Act, or The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980, is a federal law in the United States. It was enacted in Washington State in response to the growing need to address hazardous waste sites in the country. The Superfund Act created a trust fund to help protect human health and the environment by cleaning up hazardous waste sites, or Superfund sites. The Superfund Act requires that hazardous waste sites be identified and then assessed to determine the risk posed to human health and the environment. Once the assessment is complete, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) takes action to clean up the site. The EPA can take legal action against the person or company responsible for the pollution and force them to pay for the cleanup. It can also use funds from the Superfund to clean up sites. If the responsible party is unable to pay for the cleanup, the EPA can use funds from the Superfund to pay for the cleanup. The Superfund also helps restore and protect natural resources affected by hazardous waste sites. It also provides funds for research and education programs that promote environmental awareness and protection. The Superfund Act is an important part of environmental law in Washington State because it enables the government to protect public health and the environment by cleaning up hazardous waste sites. The funds from the Superfund also help protect natural resources and promote environmental awareness and protection.
