The Solid Waste Disposal Act seeks to protect the environment through limiting the release of solid or hazardous waste into the environment. It sets up a system of environmental regulations, such as permitting and inspection requirements, that are designed to control the disposal of solid waste. The Act also includes provisions for public participation in the permitting and enforcement process. The Act is enforced by the DEP, which has the authority to enforce its regulations through administrative orders, civil enforcement actions, and criminal proceedings. The DEP is also authorized to impose fines, penalties, and sanctions for violations of the Act. The Solid Waste Disposal Act is an important law in Pennsylvania that helps protect the environment and public health by regulating the storage, use, and disposal of solid waste. The Act ensures that environmental regulations are enforced appropriately and that the public is involved in the permitting and enforcement process.
