Are there any laws prohibiting activities such as horse racing or animal fighting?
In Nevada, there are laws prohibiting activities such as horse racing and animal fighting. The Animal Fighting and Horse Racing Act of 2005 makes it illegal to promote, stage, or facilitate animal fights and horse racing. According to the act, any person who knowingly sponsors, advertises, or sponsors a horse race or an animal fight can be found guilty and fined or imprisoned. Anyone who is convicted of a third violation of the Act may be sentenced to up to six years in prison. The Act also prohibits owning, training, or caring for an animal with the intention of using it to fight other animals. Furthermore, any animal that has been used for fighting must be confiscated and transported to an animal shelter. Moreover, if an animal is found to be injured as a result of a fight, the person responsible may be found guilty of a criminal offense and sentenced to a jail term or fined. The Nevada Horse Racing Act of 1953 also prohibits certain activities related to horse racing. For example, the Act prohibits betting, wagering, or gambling on horses outside of licensed racetracks. It also provides that an individual shall not own, lease, or possess a horse for the purpose of racing on public highways. Furthermore, the Act makes it illegal to commit any act that would endanger or injure horses or riders participating in a race. Violation of the law is punishable by imprisonment or fines.
