What is collaborative divorce?
Collaborative divorce is a type of dispute resolution available to family law matters in West Virginia. It is an alternative to the traditional court process and is a method to resolve conflicts between couples without lengthy court proceedings. In a collaborative divorce, couples negotiate an agreement outside of court with the assistance of their respective attorneys, and any other professionals that may be necessary, such as financial advisors, mediators, and mental health professionals. The goal is to come to a resolution that works for both parties, and all parties must agree to work together towards an amicable resolution without the threat of court action. Collaborative divorce is a more cost-effective, amicable, and private way to resolve your family law matters, as well as a more emotionally healthy way to end a marriage. The collaborative divorce process helps couples come to an agreement without having to go to court or to risk a lengthy and expensive trial. Instead, couples can work together to reach a resolution, while also keeping their privacy and dignity intact.
