How long do I have to stay in my home after a foreclosure?

In Wisconsin, once the bank or other mortgage lender has filed for a foreclosure, the homeowner has only a limited amount of time to stay in the home. As soon as the foreclosure is filed, the homeowner may be required to move out in as little as 14 days. After the foreclosure is finalized, the homeowner must vacate the property. The foreclosure process can take anywhere from two to six months, but it is important to note that the homeowner legally must be out of the home by the time the foreclosure is finalized. If the homeowner does not vacate the property after the foreclosure has been finalized, the new owner may take legal action to have the homeowner removed. If the homeowner does not leave voluntarily the new owner, the sheriff, or a court-appointed official may become involved and forcibly remove the homeowner. It is important to note that even if the foreclosure process takes a long time, the homeowner is only legally allowed to stay in the home until the foreclosure is finalized.
