What is the difference between a franchise and a license?
A franchise and a license are both legal agreements that involve the use of a company’s name and its products or services. However, there are key differences between the two. A franchise is an arrangement between a company and an individual or a group of people, which is governed by a franchise agreement. This agreement gives the franchisee the right to use the company’s name and products in order to make a profit. The franchisee pays the company a franchise fee, and the company provides the franchisee with training and ongoing support. A license, on the other hand, is a document that grants permission to an individual or a group of people to use certain intellectual property, such as a trademark. Licenses are typically issued by the state of Washington, and the licensee is typically required to pay an annual fee in addition to any royalties that may be required. Unlike a franchise, a license does not typically give the licensee any ongoing support from the company. Instead, the licensee is typically responsible for making sure that their activities are in compliance with the terms of the license agreement.
