Does a parent have the right to deny grandparent visitation?
In Minnesota, a parent does have the right to deny grandparent visitation. The Minnesota Supreme Court has interpreted the Grandparents Rights Law to mean that parents do have control over who can visit their children. The law states that a court may grant visitation rights to a grandparent if it is in the best interest of the child, and the court must take into account the wishes of the parents when making a decision. The Minnesota Supreme Court has also established that parents have the right to determine who can visit their children, and that parents have the right to deny grandparent visitation if they feel it is in the best interest of their child. In making this decision, the court must consider the wishes of the parents, the mental and physical health of the child, and any other factors that could affect the child’s interests. The court will not automatically grant visitation rights to a grandparent, because the court must be convinced that it is in the best interest of the child for the grandparent to have visitation rights. A parent has the right to deny grandparent visitation, and if this is the case, the court must take the parent’s opinion seriously before granting visitation rights to a grandparent. The court must also consider the grandparent’s request for visitation and whether or not it is in the best interest of the child for the request to be granted.
