What is an appeal?

An appeal is a legal process that allows a person to challenge a decision made by a court or other tribunal. In the state of West Virginia, an appeal is when a party to a case disagrees with either the ruling or the sentence of the court and seeks to have it changed or overturned by a higher court. An appeal is typically made by a person who believes that the ruling was unfair or that it was not based on the facts and evidence presented during the trial. Appeals are an important part of the court system and allow for fairness and justice to be served. While it may take more time and money to successfully complete the process, it can be worth it if the original ruling was not based on the facts or the law.
