What is the difference between a restraining order and an injunction?

A restraining order and an injunction are different orders issued under Pennsylvania law. A restraining order is an order issued by a court requiring the person to stop certain actions (e.g. harassment, stalking, etc.). A restraining order can last for a certain amount of time or until the court takes further action. An injunction is a court order that orders a person to do something or to stop doing something. For example, a person may be ordered to stay away from another person, or to not sell certain property. An injunction is a more permanent order than a restraining order, as it is meant to last until a court renders a final decision. In Pennsylvania, a restraining order must be requested in a specific form and must be approved by the court. An injunction, on the other hand, is automatically enacted once it is issued by a court, meaning that it is not necessary for a party to file forms to obtain it. In summary, a restraining order is a temporary court order to stop a certain action, while an injunction is a more permanent court order to do or to stop doing something. While a restraining order must be requested and approved by the court, an injunction is automatically enacted once it is issued by the court.
