What is a Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP)?
A Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP) is an optional California health insurance law that allows employers to provide employees with a benefit to help them pay for the costs of caring for a dependent while they are at work. This includes daycare expenses for children, elderly family members, and other dependents who require care and supervision. The DCAP allows employers to set aside a certain amount of money on a pre-tax basis for the employees to use for dependent care expenses. Employers are able to choose the maximum amount and the frequency of payments (monthly, quarterly, or annually).
