What is an employer-sponsored health plan?

An employer-sponsored health plan is an insurance plan offered by an employer as part of an employee’s benefits package. These plans are typically based on a group health insurance plan, meaning that the employer purchases the plan and covers the vast majority of the costs associated with it. The employee will usually be responsible for any out of pocket costs associated with their plan, including deductibles, co-pays, and co-insurance. In the state of Arizona, employers must offer health insurance plans that meet the Essential Health Benefits defined by the Affordable Care Act. These benefits include doctor’s visits, emergency services, hospitalization, lab tests, preventive care, and prescription drug coverage. The employer is responsible for covering the majority of the costs of the plan, but may require the employee to cover a portion of the cost as well. Depending on the size of the employer, these plans may also include additional benefits, such as vision and dental coverage. While employer-sponsored health plans can provide a great deal of protection and peace of mind for employees, the cost of the plans may be high. The employer is responsible for any premiums associated with the plan, and the employee may be responsible for additional out-of-pocket costs. Luckily, there are subsidies available from the federal government to help offset the cost of some plans. In Arizona, employer-sponsored health plans are a great way for employers and employees to provide for each other’s health and well-being. With the assistance of the Affordable Care Act, employers can provide quality coverage to their employees without having to worry about breaking the bank in the process.
