What is the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights?
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) is an international treaty that was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1966. The ICCPR forms part of the International Bill of Human Rights, together with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The ICCPR is a binding legal agreement between states that recognizes the inherent human rights of individuals.
