What is the International Court of Justice?
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the primary judicial organ of the United Nations. It is located in The Hague, Netherlands. The ICJ is a body of 15 independent judges from different countries around the world. The ICJ plays a major role in the advancement of international justice and human rights law, as it is the main judicial body for settling disputes between countries. The court is tasked with resolving any legal disputes between countries that have been brought before it. The decisions of the International Court of Justice are binding on all parties and must be followed. All countries are required to observe the court’s decisions, and the United Nations Security Council can take enforcement measures against states that fail to do so.
