What is the right to education?
The right to education is a basic tenet of human rights law in Colorado. It is defined as the right for every person to have access to education. This includes both access to education and the right to be educated to a certain standard. This right is affirmed in section 26 of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that everyone has the right to education and that it should be free at least for the basic levels. In Colorado, the right to education is also spelled out in the state’s constitution. This provides all children with the right to a public education in grades K-12. Additionally, all students regardless of disability, gender, religion, or socio-economic status have the right to an equal and quality education. In addition to the right to education, there are also other related human rights laws in Colorado that protect students’ rights. These include the right to be free from discrimination, to be treated fairly, and to be given a safe learning environment. The right to education is a fundamental right that should be protected and respected in all areas of the state. It ensures that all children are able to receive a quality education and that no one is denied access to education due to their identity. By upholding this right, Colorado is helping to create a more equitable and just society where all students can learn and grow.
