What is an act of God exclusion?
An act of God exclusion is a clause in your insurance policy that states that natural disasters are excluded from coverage. This means that if your property is damaged by things such as a tornado, hurricane, flood, or earthquake, your insurance company will not cover the costs associated with the damage. This exclusion also applies to any losses caused by unusually severe weather conditions. For example, if a hurricane were to cause damage to your house, your insurance policy would likely not cover the costs associated with repair or replacement. This is because hurricanes are considered to be an "act of God," and are therefore excluded from coverage under most policies. In other words, insurance companies have determined that loss caused by natural disasters are too unpredictable to be covered by a standard policy. In some cases, however, you may be able to purchase additional coverage to protect yourself from losses due to natural disasters. This coverage is generally referred to as an “Act of God Endorsement,” and must be purchased separately from your regular policy. As with any type of insurance policy, it is important that you read the details of the coverage carefully and make sure that you understand what is and is not covered.
