What is an “asylum clock”?
An “asylum clock” is a term used to describe the timeframe an asylum applicant in Florida has to wait for a decision on their claim. This timeframe is known as the “asylum clock”. This timeframe is measured from the time of filing the initial asylum application until the asylum applicant receives a final decision from the United States immigration court. The purpose of the asylum clock is to prevent individuals from waiting too long for a decision on their application. This is especially important for people who have fled their home country due to danger or fear of persecution. Under U.S. immigration laws, individuals who are granted asylum have the right to live and work in the United States while their case is being processed.
