What is the process for renewing permanent residency status?
Permanent residence status is a form of immigration status that allows individuals to live and work in the United States for a certain number of years. In Illinois, individuals who are granted permanent residence status must renew it after it has expired. The process for renewing permanent residency status starts with filing Form I-90, also known as an Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card. This application must be submitted to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Along with this form, individuals must also submit a copy of their passport, Proof of Permanent Residence (Form I-551), two passport photos, and the filing fee which is currently $455. After the application is filed with the USCIS, individuals will receive a receipt number which will allow them to track the progress of their application. An interview may also be required at the local USCIS office in Illinois. During the interview, they will be asked questions about their permanent residency status and background. Once the application has been approved, the individual will receive their new permanent resident card. The new card will be valid for ten years. However, individuals must remember to renew their permanent residency status before the expiration date. It is important to keep track of the expiration date in order to avoid any delays in the renewal process.
