What is the process for a child to become a green card holder?

In Tennessee, a child may become a green card holder through a family member or employment sponsorship. The first step is to determine which family member or employer is eligible to petition for the child. In order to do this, the child must be the biological or adopted child of the petitioner or be sponsored by a U.S. employer. Once the sponsor is identified, the petitioner must file an immigration petition with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The petition must include evidence that the relationship between the petitioner and the child is valid and that the petitioner is capable of supporting the child financially. After the petition is filed, the USCIS will review the evidence and determine whether or not the child is eligible for a green card. If the petition is approved, then the child will be issued a temporary visa which will allow them to enter the U.S. and remain lawfully until the green card is issued. Once the child enters the U.S., they must submit additional documentation to USCIS such as birth certificates, passports, and other evidence of their identity and relationship to the petitioner. If all the documentation is in order, then USCIS will review the application and issue a green card if the child is found to be eligible. The green card will allow the child to live and work legally in the U.S. indefinitely.
