What are the documents required for a child to apply for an immigrant visa?

When a child is applying for an immigrant visa in the state of California, there are a few documents that will be required. The first documents that will be requested are the child’s birth certificate, proof of the child’s relationship to the parent who is making the application, and proof of the parent’s legal status. Additionally, the child must have a valid passport and provide proof of financial support. If the child is not financially supported by the parent who will be filing the application, additional documentation of support is required. This may include evidence of outside support from another family member or third-party sponsor. The application also requires a medical examination by a U.S.-approved doctor, as well as proof of vaccination. Additionally, if the child has ever been fingerprinted before, a copy of those results is also needed. This includes any previous fingerprints taken after an arrest, detainment, or deportation. Finally, the application must include a biographic information form along with two clear photographs of the child. These must meet the requirements set by the Department of Homeland Security. In many cases, the parents must also provide affidavits of support to prove that they can adequately financially support the child in the U.S.
