Is a child eligible for a student visa?
A child in Washington may be eligible for a student visa if they meet the requirements of U.S. immigration law. The United States allows foreign students to pursue a U.S. education by obtaining a student visa. To be eligible for a student visa, a child must be accepted to a school that is accredited by the government and has been designated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as a Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) school. Additionally, the child must be able to demonstrate that they can financially support themselves while in the U.S. and they must be able to demonstrate that they are able to leave the U.S. upon completion of their studies. Lastly, the child must be able to demonstrate that they have no criminal record and pass a medical examination. If a child meets these requirements, then they may be eligible for a student visa.
