What is the process for a child to adjust their status from a nonimmigrant to an immigrant?

In order to adjust a child’s status from a nonimmigrant to an immigrant in Pennsylvania, the child and/or their parent or legal guardian must file an I-485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. The I-485 application is used to request lawful permanent residence in the United States. In the I-485 application, the child must also attach supporting documents, such as an I-94 card (Arrival/Departure Record) and evidence of their relationship to the parent or guardian who submitted the application on their behalf. It is very important to provide evidence of the child’s immigration status and relationship in the I-485 application. If the child is eligible for adjustment of status and the I-485 application is approved, the child may be issued an employment authorization document and a travel document, allowing them to work in the United States and travel outside the country. Once the I-485 application is approved, the child must attend an adjustment of status interview with a USCIS immigration officer. During the interview, the immigration officer will ask questions to verify the information provided in the I-485 application. If the child passes the interview, they will become a lawful permanent resident of the United States and be issued a Green Card. They will also be able to apply for citizenship after a certain period of time.
