What is required for a child to apply for a U nonimmigrant status?

In Washington, minors wishing to apply for a U nonimmigrant status must meet certain requirements. To qualify, they must have suffered substantial physical or mental abuse due to a severe form of trafficking, be willing to assist law enforcement in the investigation and/or prosecution of trafficking, and be under the age of 21. Additionally, applicants must establish that they are present in the United States on a valid nonimmigrant status or parole status, or have been admitted as a refugee and must have been physically present in the United States for at least three years preceding the application. They must also provide evidence that they suffer from extreme hardship involving unusual and severe harm if removed from the United States Finally, minors must demonstrate that they are credible, law abiding, of good moral character, and have not engaged in any unlawful activity or committed a serious or violent criminal offence. Applicants must submit evidence of these factors to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) as part of their application. To apply, applicants should complete Form I-918, Supplement B and submit it to the applicable USCIS field office. Documentation of eligibility and proof of identity must also be provided, as well as any applicable fees. An immigration lawyer or accredited representative can be helpful during the process, as the application must be done correctly in order to be successful.
