How can I apply for a green card?
If you are an immigrant living in North Carolina and interested in applying for a green card, the best place to start is by filing Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. In order to be eligible to apply, you must have a valid reason, such as marriage to a U.S. citizen, having a job offer, being a family member of a green card holder, or being a refugee. When you are ready to file your application, you must gather documentation, such as proof of your current immigration status, evidence of your identity, employment records, birth certificates, and marriage certificates (if applicable). In some cases, you may need to obtain permission to apply for the green card, which is available by filing Form I-601, Application for Waiver of Grounds of Inadmissibility. Once all of the required documents are collected, the application must be filled out and mailed to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). It is important to note that the length of time it takes to process applications can vary and should be taken into consideration when making the decision to apply. After filing, you will be required to attend a biometrics appointment. During this appointment, fingerprints and a photograph will be taken to help USCIS verify your identity. You may also be required to participate in an interview with an immigration officer. If you are approved, you will receive a green card in the mail, allowing you to live and work in the U.S. permanently.
