What is a Stay of Removal?
A Stay of Removal is a temporary halt to deportation (also known as removal) of a person from the United States. In Louisiana, a Stay of Removal can be issued by an immigration judge or the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) and allows an individual to remain in the country for a period of time. The length of the stay can vary, but usually lasts until the individual’s case has been reviewed and decided.
