What is the US-VISIT Program?
The US-VISIT Program, commonly referred to as US-VISIT, is a federal program that monitors the entry and exit of visitors to the United States. It is administered by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The program collects and maintains digital fingerprints, photographs and other biometric data of visitors from Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries, as well as other non-immigrants who enter the United States. These data are stored and used by the US-VISIT system in order to verify the identity of visitors. The system also helps to detect and prevent individuals with criminal histories or ties to terrorism from entering the country. In addition, US-VISIT helps to facilitate the deportation process in Texas. The program is used to keep track of those immigrants who are subject to deportation, as well as those who are ineligible for an immigration benefit. This information is then used to support deportation proceedings. Furthermore, US-VISIT allows the DHS to determine the eligibility of foreign nationals for U.S. visas, as well as provide information to other government agencies in order to help enforce the immigration laws of the United States.
