What is a Notice of Action (NOA)?

A Notice of Action (NOA) is a form issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that informs a person of an action taken by the agency relating to their immigration status. In South Carolina, a Notice of Action (NOA) may be given to an immigrant if they have been ordered deportation or removal from the United States. A Notice of Action (NOA) states why the person has been located deportable by the immigration court and gives a deadline for their departure or removal from the country. It also states the person’s rights to appeal the decision. Depending on the circumstances, a Notice of Action may give the individual an option to obtain permission to stay in the United States, such as applying for a waiver or asylum. In addition to the Notice of Action, ICE may order the individual to attend a meeting with immigration officers. This meeting is referred to as a Master Calendar Hearing. The Notice of Action will include instructions and a date and location for the Master Calendar hearing. This is where the individual can present any documents or arguments that may support their case for staying in the United States. The Notice of Action is an important form because it informs a person of their immigration status. It outlines their options and allows them to make an informed decision about their future. It is important to follow the instructions on the Notice of Action to ensure that the individual is following the laws of South Carolina and the United States.
