What is the Visa Waiver Program?
The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) is a program that allows citizens of certain countries to travel to the United States for up to 90 days without needing to obtain a visa. The VWP is administered by the Department of Homeland Security in cooperation with the State Department. The purpose of the VWP is to facilitate tourism and travel while also helping to ensure the security of the United States. In order to be eligible for the VWP, a foreign traveler must be a citizen of one of the countries that participate in the program. These countries include Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Travelers must also have a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) form, which is available online. In Pennsylvania, foreign travelers are subject to all same deportation procedures and laws as those who are not eligible for the VWP. The Department of Homeland Security is responsible for overseeing the enforcement of immigration law in Pennsylvania, including deportation proceedings. Deportation proceedings can be initiated when a foreign national is deemed to have violated the terms of their admission to the United States. The deportation process may involve removal from the United States, removal orders, detention, and imprisonment.
