How can I travel to the United States without a visa?

Traveling to the United States without a visa is possible, but it can be complicated. Generally, travelers from certain countries are able to enter the US without a visa when they are entering for a short stay and are eligible for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). Under the VWP, visitors from designated countries may be admitted to the US for up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes without a visa. To travel to the US without a visa under the VWP, individuals must have a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) and meet a few other criteria. ESTA is a free online application that visitors must complete prior to traveling to the US under the VWP. ESTA is valid for two years or when the traveler’s passport expires, whichever comes first. To qualify for the VWP, travelers must have a passport from an eligible country, must not have a contagious disease, must not have a criminal history, and must be able to demonstrate sufficient funds to cover the cost of their stay in the US. Immigration law and regulations can be quite complex, and it is best to consult an experienced immigration lawyer with any questions. In South Carolina, State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is the agency responsible for the enforcement of immigration laws and deportation proceedings. SLED and the US Department of Homeland Security are the entities that ultimately decide who is allowed entry and who must be deported.
