What are the eligibility requirements for an EAD?
An Employment Authorization Document (EAD) is a work permit that allows foreign nationals to legally work in the United States. In North Carolina, EAD applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: 1. Be a foreign national who is legally living in the U.S. 2. Have a valid, unexpired visa that authorizes work in the U.S. 3. Have a valid Social Security number and/or an Employment Authorization Number (EAN). 4. Be a victim of trafficking or have a temporary protected status in the U.S. 5. Have an adjustment of status to permanent resident or refugee status. 6. Have a valid humanitarian or employment-based visa. In addition, EAD applicants must be in compliance with all immigration laws and may be subject to background checks. If an individual fails to meet these requirements, they may be deported or denied an EAD. It is important to remember that EADs are not a permanent solution and can be revoked or expire at any time. Furthermore, an individual must file an application to renew an EAD within 60 days of the expiration date.
