What is an L visa?

An L Visa is a nonimmigrant visa that allows foreign nationals to enter the United States to work in a specialized occupation. The L visa is available to employees of international companies who have been transferred by their employers to a related company in the United States, and for managers, executives, and specialized employees who have been employed outside the United States for at least one year within the preceding three-year period. In Oregon, the L visa can be used to work in certain industries such as technology, finance, and consulting. To be eligible for the L visa, the foreign national must demonstrate that they have been employed abroad for at least one year in the three years preceding their application. Additionally, they must be employed in a related company in the United States, and in a managerial or executive role, or in a role with specialized knowledge relevant to the company’s industry. The L visa is valid for up to seven years, and renewable for up to seven additional years.
