What is a Q visa?
A Q visa is a type of employment-based visa under the Immigration and Nationality Act of the United States. It is designed specifically for people who possess extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics, and who want to come to the United States to perform their talents or display them in a culturally unique program. To qualify for the Q visa, applicants must demonstrate scientific and/or artistic achievements and recognition in their field, through a prescriptive list of criteria established by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Depending on the type of Q visa, applicants may be required to present evidence of a job offer from a U.S. employer, or a statement of support from a designated organization. In Tennessee, applicants who meet the requirements of the Q visa program can apply for a Q visa through USCIS, either by submitting an application for a Q-1 visa or a Q-2 visa. The Q-1 visa allows for temporary residence in the U.S. while the Q-2 visa is an extended stay visa that allows the applicant to live and work in the country for a designated period. In both cases, applicants must receive a qualifying job offer from an employer within the state of Tennessee.
