What is an L-1B visa?

An L-1B visa is an immigration status allowing a foreign employee of a multi-national company to come to Oregon and work temporarily. It is a non-immigrant visa, meaning you are not able to permanently reside in the United States, but you are allowed to work for the duration of the visa’s validity. Typically, an L-1B visa is valid for up to three years, but more time can be requested. The L-1B visa is given to an employee who has worked outside the United States for the same employer for at least one year in the last three years. The employee must also have specialized knowledge value to the United States based company. Employees must also have a valid job offer from the employer in the United States in order to qualify. It should be noted that the employee must be working for the same employer in both countries. The L-1B visa is a great option for employers who need a specialized employee from abroad. It allows companies to bring in a employee with specialized knowledge to help with their operations in the US without having to go through the complicated and lengthy process of obtaining a Green Card.
