How do I apply for a green card?
In order to apply for a green card in the state of Washington, you must first meet a certain set of criteria. Generally, those seeking a green card must be a family member of a US citizen, a lawful permanent resident, a Nobel prize winner, a US national, or have an employer who is willing to sponsor you. Once you have determined that you are eligible to apply, you must fill out the Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, also known as Form I-485. This form requires basic information such as your name and date of birth, as well as additional information such as your employment history, immigration status, and details about the basis for your green card application. Next, you must submit your form, the required fee, and any supporting documents (such as a passport, birth certificate, and marriage certificate). After your application is received, you may have to attend an interview with US Citizenship and Immigration Services. During this interview, the officer will ask you questions to verify the information on your form. Once all the required steps have been completed, you will receive your decision letter. If your application is approved, you will receive your green card in the mail which will allow you to live and work in the United States permanently. It is important to note, however, that green card holders are still subject to certain laws and regulations, and must also renew their green card every ten years.
