When can I apply for naturalization if I got my green card through marriage?

If you got your green card through marriage, you can apply for naturalization after three years of living in the United States as a permanent resident. In order to be eligible, you must be at least 18 years old and your marriage must have lasted for three years or more at the time of filing the naturalization application. You must also have lived in the U.S. as a permanent resident for the three years since you got your green card, in Pennsylvania or another state. Additionally, you must be able to demonstrate “good moral character” during the time you were a resident, meaning you have to prove that you have not committed any serious crimes or engaged in any unlawful behavior. You must also show that you understand basic English and have an understanding of the principles of the U.S. government as they are outlined in the U.S. Constitution. It also helps to show that you have been actively involved in civic activities, such as volunteering in your local community. Lastly, you must pass a U.S. citizenship test that covers topics such as American history, the rights and responsibilities of citizens, the American political system, and the forms of government. Once you have completed these steps, you will be asked to take an oath of loyalty to the United States and you will be granted U.S. citizenship.
