How do I become a citizen of the U.S. once I have a green card?
In Washington, becoming a US citizen once you have a green card is a long process, but one that is possible. The process is called naturalization. To start the naturalization process, you must first fill out and submit Form N-400, Application for Naturalization. Along with the application, you must submit evidence of your residence in the United States, proof of a valid green card, two passport-style photographs, and a fee. You will then have to go through an interview process where you will answer questions about your background, residence, and the eligibility requirements for becoming a US citizen. During the interview, you will take a written test of your English language and civics knowledge. You will also be asked to demonstrate your ability to read and write English. Once these steps have been completed and approved, you will have to take an Oath of Allegiance to the United States. This means that you will have to swear to uphold and support the laws and Constitution of the United States. Finally, you will be issued a Certificate of Naturalization, which is your official documentation that you are a US citizen. Congratulations on becoming a US citizen!
