What is the difference between a work visa and a green card?

A work visa and a green card are two different processes of immigration law in Florida. A work visa is temporary permission granted by the U.S. government to a foreign national to legally enter the United States and work for a period of time. It is a document that allows the holder to live in the United States while they are working. Depending on the type of visa, a work visa may be valid for up to six years. The work visa must be obtained and then approved by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) before entering the country. A green card is a document granting an individual permanent residence and the right to work in the United States. This document is also known as a United States Permanent Resident Card. Unlike a work visa, a green card will allow an individual to live and work in the United States indefinitely and eventually become a citizen. In order to obtain a green card, the individual must typically apply through the USCIS for permanent residence. Overall, the biggest difference between a work visa and a green card is the length of time they allow the holder to remain in the United States. A work visa only allows temporary entry into the country, while a green card provides access to permanent residence and citizenship.
