What documents do I need to apply for US citizenship?
In order to apply for US citizenship, you will need to provide certain documents to prove your eligibility. The list of documents needed varies depending on the individual’s circumstances. First, you will need a certified copy of your birth certificate. The birth certificate must be in English or be translated into English. You will also need a valid passport from the country of your nationality, as well as a certificate of arrival to prove that you have lived in the US for at least 5 years. This document must be issued by the US Department of Homeland Security and must include the arrival date and location. You will also need to provide evidence of your good moral character, including a police record from the past five years and any court records of convictions and pending court cases. Additionally, you must submit a Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status). Finally, you will need two passport-style photographs and proof of your current address in North Carolina. You may also need to provide proof of your financial support. This can be in the form of tax returns, bank statements, pay stubs, or letters of references. If you meet all the requirements, you will be invited to an interview with a US Citizenship and Immigration Services officer. The officer will ask you questions about your application and may also ask you to take the citizenship oath. Once you have successfully completed this process, you will become a naturalized citizen of the United States.
