You may also need to provide financial documents that show you can support yourself while you remain in the United States. Extensions on your green card can be granted up to a year, however, this is subject to change. You must also remain up to date with your taxes and abide by all immigration laws. If your application is declined, you may be required to reapply, however it is important to contact an immigration lawyer to best understand the details of your application and what it may entail.
