What documents do I need to naturalize?

In order to become a naturalized citizen of the United States, there are certain documents and requirements that must be satisfied. The requirements to apply for naturalization in the state of Tennessee are no different. In order to apply for naturalization, you must first be a lawful permanent resident of the United States for at least five years (or at least three years, if you are married to a U.S. citizen). In addition to a valid green card, you will also need to meet other eligibility requirements including good moral character, knowledge of the English language, and knowledge of U.S. government and history. In order to apply for naturalization, you must fill out Form N-400, and also provide the following documents: • Proof of identity and residence in the United States such as a passport, driver’s license, or Social Security card; • Birth certificate; • Two passport-style color photographs; • Applicable fees; • Evidence of good moral character such as information pertaining to arrests or criminal charges; • Evidence of any military service; • Military discharge papers (if applicable); • Evidence of any name change(s); • And other documents as requested by USCIS. The process of naturalization includes an interview and sometimes a written test. It is important to remember that the naturalization process can be long and can take up to several months to complete. It is important to be honest in your application, as any misrepresentations or omissions of information could delay the process or result in a denial.
