What is the process to apply for a Family-Based Immigration visa?
Family-based immigration visas are a way for people to obtain permanent legal residence in the United States. To apply for a family-based immigration visa in Pennsylvania, you will need to submit an I-130 form to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The I-130 form is the official application used to petition for an alien relative. If you are a U.S. citizen and you are petitioning for your spouse, child, adopted child, or stepchild, you must fill out the I-130 form. If you are a U.S. permanent resident petitioning for a spouse, child, adopted child, or stepchild, you will need to fill out the I-130A form. When you have completed the form, you will need to send it to the USCIS along with the required supporting documents such as proof of the familial relationship, birth certificates, death certificates, and any other required documents. Once your application has been approved, your sponsor will receive an immigrant visa number from the Department of State Visa Center. The Visa Center will then notify you and your sponsor when your visa number is available. Once your visa number is available, you can either apply for an adjustment of status in the United States or for an immigrant visa at a U.S. consulate abroad. Your application will then be reviewed and processed by the USCIS. If your application is approved, you will be granted permanent legal residence in the United States.
