What is the Advance Parole program?

The Advance Parole program is a program designed by Vermont Immigration Law to enable individuals to travel abroad without having to obtain a visa. This program is especially useful for individuals who may have been locked out of the country because of their immigration status. The Advance Parole program is available to individuals who are already in the United States and who are currently pursuing a lawful permanent resident application; this includes those applying for a green card. Individuals must submit an Advance Parole application in order to be considered for the program. Upon approval, the individual will receive a document known as an Advance Parole Document, which allows them to travel overseas and re-enter the U.S. without having to obtain a visa prior to their trip. When returning to the United States, individuals must present their Advance Parole Document to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer at the point of entry. If the officer approves the document, the individual will be allowed to re-enter the United States and continue the progress of their application for residency. The Advance Parole program is an important tool for individuals in Vermont who are seeking a lawful permanent resident status and who may not have the opportunity to obtain a visa. By providing individuals with an opportunity to travel abroad without a visa, the Advance Parole program allows individuals to maintain and progress their immigration applications while still being able to take care of important business abroad.
