What is an H-1B visa and how do I apply for one?
An H-1B visa is a type of visa that allows foreign nationals to work in the United States in a specialty occupation for a limited period of time. It is commonly used by employers to hire foreign nationals for specific positions or projects. To apply for an H-1B visa, you must be sponsored by a U.S. employer. The employer must file a Labor Condition Application (LCA) with the U.S. Department of Labor and, if approved, submit an H-1B petition to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The petition must include documentation to prove that the foreign national has the necessary qualifications and work experience for the position, as well as evidence of wages and other benefits. USCIS will review the application and, if approved, grant the foreign national an H-1B visa. Upon being admitted to the United States with an H-1B visa, the foreign national may legally work for the sponsoring employer for up to three years, with the possibility of an extension. Students in North Carolina should note that the H-1B visa is only available to individuals who are qualified and experienced professionals in the field they are applying for.
