What is an H-2B visa?

An H-2B visa is a type of temporary work visa that allows foreign nationals who are not permanent residents of the United States to take temporary, nonagricultural work in the United States. Those applying for the H-2B visa must have a job offer from an employer in the United States. The H-2B visa is typically granted in a single year, but it can be renewed for an additional three years. In Arizona, students from other countries are eligible for the H-2B visa if they fulfill certain requirements. This includes having a job offer from an employer, proving that they are qualified for the job, and having an I-20 form or another valid permit to be in the United States. Additionally, students must demonstrate that they are able to cover expenses during their stay and will return to their country once the visa expires. The H-2B visa is largely used by foreign workers in Arizona who are looking for seasonal employment or are taking part in programs such as student exchange or summer internships. It is important to note that unlike more permanent work visas, the H-2B visa is not available to all occupations and positions. The US Department of Labor must certify that there are not enough qualified US workers to fill the positions before granting the visa.
