What is an H-2B visa?

An H-2B visa is a type of work visa that allows foreign nationals to temporarily enter the United States to perform temporary or seasonal non-agricultural work. California is one of the states that issues these work visas, meaning foreign nationals can apply for these visas and work in the state for a limited period of time. H-2B visas are typically granted to those who have certain qualifications and a contract from a specific employer and are not intended for use by students. An individual who applies for an H-2B visa must prove they are capable of performing the job they are applying for and must receive a job offer from an employer in the United States. Once the visa is approved, the applicant can enter the United States and work for the employer for a specific period of time. Upon completion of their work, the individual must leave the United States. It is important to note that H-2B visas are not intended for students and they must not be used as a way to stay in the United States beyond their limited work period.
